In a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, Telugu Desam Party head N Chandrababu Naidu requested information regarding the cases that had been brought against him in the state since 2019.
According to the Representation of the People Act, each candidate running for office is required to disclose all matters that are still outstanding against them in the election affidavit that was submitted at the time of nomination.
The former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister claimed that multiple cases had been "foisted against him" in various police stations and by numerous agencies in the state in a letter addressed to the DGP and marked copies for all district superintendents of police, APCID, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), and the Chief Election Commissioner.
"Several cases have been foisted against me with various police stations and by different agencies in the state for fighting against the anti-people policies of the incumbent government and to protect or uphold the rights of the people," Chandrababu Naidu wrote in his letter.
In order to be eligible to run in the next Lok Sabha elections, Naidu wrote to the DGP requesting a list of all the cases that have been brought against him since January 2019 by different agencies while he has been serving as the MLA, former Chief Minister, and Leader of the Opposition.
Various investigative organisations have opened multiple cases against the former chief minister.
On September 9 of last year, Naidu was taken into custody on charges of embezzling money from the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation during his tenure as chief minister in 2015. The state exchequer is said to have suffered a loss of Rs 371 crore as a result of the alleged misappropriation.
