Jasprit Bumrah Breaks 46-Year-Old Record In Sydney Test

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been the dominating force on the Australian tour. He has again set new benchmarks with his spectacular performances. While leading Team India in the fifth Test in Sydney, Bumrah broke a 46-year-old record. The Indian bowler now holds the record for most wickets taken in a single Test series, with a minimum of five matches, on Australian soil, overtaking the great spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi.

Bumrah Surpasses Bishan Singh Bedi's 1977/78 Record

Bishan Singh Bedi held the record since he took 31 wickets in a five-Test series back in the 1977/78 season against Australia. Bumrah recently broke this mark as well and won 32 wickets, which further established him into the cricket history book. His important dismissals of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne of the current Test have been added to his tally.

A Streaky Consistent Performer of 2024

Bumrah has emerged as one of the best bowlers in international cricket. He was the Indian bowler with the highest ICC bowling rating at the beginning of the year. In 2024, Bumrah took 71 wickets in 13 Tests, and thus he emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the year. His consistency in delivering results when it mattered the most made him a key player for the Indian team.
