IPL 2025 Delayed Owing To India-Pakistan Conflict

IPL 2025 Matches Postponed for a Week

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a formal announcement that a week has been added to the Indian Premier League 2025. Following this was a situation when India and Pakistan were at a rough edge. Organizers of the tournament stated that this break was needed to deal with safety issues.

In an official post on its 'X' account, the IPL stated that several franchises had raised safety concerns for players. The IPL Governing Council was in discussion with these issues during the meeting. The views of sponsors, broadcasters, and fans were also considered. The BCCI emphasized that while it trusts the capabilities of the Indian armed forces, the decision was made in the interest of public and player safety. "Through these difficult times that our country is going through, we extend our unflinching support and convey our best wishes to the brave soldiers of our armed forces," the statement described.

BCCI: Security Comes First Over Match Schedules

Officials from the BCCI explained that the IPL needed to be paused temporarily to avoid putting players at risk. “Conducting matches during such a national crisis would be inappropriate,” they added.

Security problems have already affected matches. Punjab vs Delhi game was halted halfway through. Lucknow vs RCB match slated for today at Ekana Stadium has also been canceled. With this suspension on, 12 league matches, two qualifiers, one eliminator, and the final are still to be played. The final was initially slated for May 25 in Kolkata.

According to the current table, Gujarat and Bengaluru top the chart with 16 points, followed by Punjab with 15 and Mumbai with 14.

Transport Issues Contribute to the Delays

Following the suspension decision, the BCCI were planning to transfer the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals players from Dharamsala to Delhi via an exclusive Vande Bharat train. But Railways refused permission, citing safety concerns around the Pathankot route.

As a response, the BCCI is making alternative arrangements for transport. Players are now going to Delhi by bus.
