Aarit Kapil Nearly Defeats Magnus Carlsen In Online Chess Event

Nine-Year-Old Indian Player Impresses in Global Tournament

Indian chess player Aarit Kapil, nine years old and based in Delhi, played well against Norwegian world number one Magnus Carlsen.

During the 'Early Titled Tuesday' online chess championship, Aarit came close to winning the game. Aarit drew the game against Carlsen, who has been crowned world champion five times.

Aarit just completed runner-up in the National Under-9 Championship. Against Carlsen, he was in the driving seat but lost out on time. There were only a few seconds remaining when he could not turn his advantage into victory.

He played the match from a distance in his hotel in Georgia.

Among the tournament, Indian contestant Pranav scored 10 points and won first place. Carlsen and American contestant Hans Mok Niemann both achieved 9.5 points. Niemann won second place under the rules of the tiebreak.
