Asia Cup 2025: BCCI And Sri Lanka To Skip ACC Meeting In Dhaka

BCCI Suspends Series with Bangladesh

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended India's ODI and T20 series against Bangladesh. Officially, this is because of a packed international calendar. But according to sources, the actual reason is care for the safety of players, since there is political unrest in Bangladesh.

Uncertainty Surrounding Asia Cup 2025

Concerns are increasing regarding the planning of the Asia Cup 2025. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will have a meeting later this month. The venue for the meeting will be Dhaka, Bangladesh. But this has become a primary concern now. Cricket authorities have confirmed that India and Sri Lanka won't be attending the meeting physically.

ACC Meeting to Proceed as Planned

In spite of this, a Pakistan Cricket Board senior official has affirmed the meeting will proceed in Dhaka. The official added that:

  • There is still time for all member nations to prepare.
  • Those who cannot attend can participate online.
  • A T20 series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is also planned from July 20-24.
  • There has never been an ACC meeting in Dhaka before.

India Holds Hosting Rights for the Asia Cup

According to the present schedule, the Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted in September. The hosting rights are with India. BCCI might, however, ask the ACC to shift the tournament to some other nation. The reason behind this is the challenge to okay Pakistan's travel to India. The problem has been persisting since the previous Champions Trophy.

During the recent Pakistan-hosted Asia Cup, India's games were shifted to Dubai. Sources indicate that the ACC has inquired of BCCI whether they are willing to host the whole tournament. BCCI has assured that it will not opt out. However, the board is also thinking about the UAE as an alternative.
