India To Host The 2025 Chess World Cup

Tournament Dates and Format

India will be hosting the Chess World Cup between October 30 and November 27, according to the International Chess Federation (FIDE). 206 players will compete in the tournament.

  • The tournament will be a knockout.
  • There will be three days for every round.
  • Two classical games will be played by players on the first two days.
  • If necessary, tiebreak games will be held on the third day.

Player Participation and Qualification

The top 50 players will qualify directly to the second round.

Top 3 tournament finishers will receive direct entry into the Candidates Tournament.

Indian Participation

Top Indian players such as Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Arjun will play for the country.

India had hosted the event before in 2002 when Viswanathan Anand took the title in Hyderabad.
