IPL 2025 Ends as Transfer Talks Kick Off
IPL 2025 is over, and the mega auction was held prior to it. Even though IPL 2026 is months away, transfer talks have already begun.
All eyes are now on Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. He is reported to have requested release from the team management. Rajasthan Royals has responded, saying they might do so—if they get two players in exchange.
Ashwin Also Requests Release from CSK
Ravichandran Ashwin, purchased at ₹9.75 crore during the recent mega auction, is said to have asked Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to release him. There has been no official word from Ashwin or CSK.
Ashwin had played for CSK between 2008 and 2015. He returned after a 10-year interval last season. He played for Rajasthan Royals between 2022 and 2024. Cricket pundits feel that he could return to Rajasthan Royals.
Aakash Chopra, analyst, on Player Movement
Cricket pundit Aakash Chopra opined on the transfer scenario.
He added that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are also interested in Sanju Samson. But Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are also likely to bid for him. KKR does not have an Indian wicketkeeper, so they might try to recruit Sanju.
Chopra further added that Ajinkya Rahane has performed admirably as a CSK captain, but the team requires a long-term leader. Because MS Dhoni is likely to retire, CSK will seek a star player to replace him. Sanju Samson qualifies that requirement.
Chopra also pointed out that CSK will not release Ravindra Jadeja. According to him, CSK will rather release Ashwin to create space for Sanju.
He also indicated that Mumbai Indians may enter the race for Sanju, as their current team management is on similar lines as KKR's.
