IND Vs PAK: Harbhajan Singh Prioritizes Nation First In Cricket Decisions

India-Pakistan tensions have escalated following the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Pakistan has been scathing in its criticism, and demands have been made to sever links with the country. These demands also encompass curbs in cricket relations.

Indian players recently pulled out of the World Championship of Legends tournament. The spotlight is now on the Asia Cup, which is set to start on September 9. It is still unsure if India and Pakistan will play against each other in the event. Ex-cricketer Harbhajan Singh is on record saying that the interests of the country are of greater value than any cricket game.

Country Before Cricket

Harbhajan Singh told the BCCI that they need to prioritize. He emphasized that soldiers who fight at the borders, separated from their families, guard the country with their sacrifices. In his view, their work makes life for all the others possible.

He said missing a cricket match is a small issue in comparison to what soldiers go through. The government, he continued, shares the same opinion. Cricketing while the army is at war is inappropriate. There are greater concerns to attend to, and cricket must not be prioritized over them.

No One Above the Nation

Harbhajan highlighted that every recognition—whether of sportspersons, actors, or any professionals—arises due to the country. He asserted that nobody is above the nation, and everyone owes it to themselves to abide by their duties towards it.

He pointed out that missing a single cricket match is nothing compared to sacrifices of soldiers on the border. He added that families await their friends in the army to come back home, and under such conditions, cricket should not be in the limelight.
