Virat Kohli's Fitness Still Impressive, Says Australian Pacer Kane Richardson

Indian Seniors Prepare to face Australia in ODI Series

Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to come back onto the ground for the first time since the Champions Trophy. The two players, along with other senior cricketers, have arrived in Australia and begun rigorous practice sessions. The three-match ODI series is set to begin on Sunday.

In the lead-up to the series, Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson shared his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s exceptional fitness. Kohli, who will turn 37 next month, continues to maintain his high physical standards. Richardson recalled a match from 2017 in Kolkata, where Kohli’s endurance stood out even in extreme conditions.

Richardson Remembers Kolkata Match

"I still recall the game in Kolkata," said Richardson. "The weather was extremely hot. Matthew Wade was standing wicket and sweating like anything. Pat Cummins was sitting besides the cool box, and Adam Zampa was offering him a drink. They all seemed exhausted."

Richardson described how even though it was hot, Kohli was moving quickly between wickets. "It was like he was on the treadmill with the air conditioning on. You can see the match video — all the other guys are exhausted. No one was saying much or celebrating. But Kohli was fit-keeping himself, running singles and doubles, and constructing his innings," he said.

There, India had made 252 runs as Kohli had made 92 from 107 deliveries. Interestingly, 60 of them were created by quick doubles and singles. Australia were bowled out for 202 runs, and India won.

Labuschagne Replaces Injured Green

Prior to the series, Australia was dealt a blow with the all-rounder Cameron Green pulling out of participation because of injury. Cricket Australia confirmed that the replacement for him would be Marnus Labuschagne. Labuschagne was not initially selected for the India series but received the call following Green's injury.
