Shubman Gill Proves Himself In All Forms
- Shubman Gill has been criticized for years for performing well only in Test cricket but not ODIs and T20s. But after the first T20 match against Australia, he debunked all those myths. Gill and Abhishek Sharma started the innings and gave India a good start. Although Abhishek got out early, Gill played on confidently with Suryakumar Yadav.
- Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik praised Gill’s performance and compared his calm approach in T20s to Virat Kohli’s style in ODIs. According to Karthik, Gill has learned to build his innings steadily without pressure. He also mentioned that Gill’s leadership roles as captain and vice-captain have increased his confidence and maturity on the field.
Gill’s Growth as a Consistent Player
- Dinesh Karthik defined Gill's contribution in T20s as precisely what Kohli does in ODIs – piling up silently and keeping things in hand at the crease. He further stated that when Kohli is playing, the scoreboard just keeps going and Gill now plays in the same zone.
- Karthik noted how Gill secured a spot as an opener by outscoring other talented batsmen such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and KL Rahul. He went on to state that it is a huge talent and focus required to stay consistent in a competitive team like India's. One must deliver match-winning performances consistently to stay in the team.
- He also added that the new responsibilities Gill has acquired as Test and ODI captain and T20 vice-captain have had him play with more confidence. But Karthik emphasized that confidence alone does not do it; maintaining performance levels is important. Gill's recent performances demonstrated that he could do it, he claimed.
Sanju Samson Responds to Speculation
- Meanwhile, Sanju Samson was talking about rumors made in the fact that his promotion could affect his own place in the batting order. Samson explained that those are mere rumors. He has been with the Indian team for years and has learned to adapt to playing different roles depending on the match situation, he said.
- Samson said the opening positions alone are settled at this time. The rest of the other players, including himself, have to be ready to bat in other slots based on the team's needs. All the players are available to play whenever called upon, he added.
