India Moves Closer to Series Victory
- Team India recorded a convincing victory against Australia in the fourth T20I, winning by 48 runs to take an assured lead into the series. India batted first and made 167 for 8.
- Shubman Gill led the innings with 46 runs off 39 balls, with four boundaries and one six. Abhishek Sharma scored 28 runs from 21 balls, and Axar Patel was unbeaten at 21 runs off 11 balls.
- For Australia, Nathan Ellis with 3/21 and Adam Zampa with 3/45 bowled well to restrict India’s total. In response, Australia was bundled out for 119 runs in 18.2 overs, as India’s disciplined bowling attack led them to fall short by:
Bowlers Seal the Win
- Axar Patel, who played an important cameo with the bat, also delivered with the ball in hand, picking 2/20 and took home the Player of the Match award.
- The major contributors were Washington Sundar 3/3, Shivam Dube 2/20 and Jasprit Bumrah 1/27.
- The final match of the series will be played in Brisbane on Saturday.
Australia’s Fast Start and Sudden Collapse
- Australia began the chase on a very aggressive note. Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Short attacked early as the score read 35/0 in four overs.
- Short started with a six and a four in the second over, while Marsh followed with another boundary.
- The momentum turned around when Axar Patel sent Short lbw. Axar then dismissed Josh Inglis (12) also and pegged back the run rate.
- Shivam Dube dismissed Marsh to make it 84/3 for Australia after 11 overs.
- From there, India dominated. Dube removed Tim David, for 14, and Glenn Maxwell, returning from injury, failed to contribute for just 2.
- Washington Sundar removed Marcus Stoinis (17) and Xavier Bartlett (0) in quick succession in the 17th over. The Australian innings folded soon after with just 119 runs on the board.
India's Innings Steadies on Gill's Continuous Knock
- India lost the toss and had to bat first. Shubman Gill anchored the innings with his composed stroke play.
- Abhishek Sharma supported him well, and India reached 49/0 after six overs.
- The entry of Adam Zampa slowed India’s progress as Abhishek, after hitting a six, got out to Zampa while trying another big shot.
- Shivam Dube followed soon after at 22.
- India looked set for a big total at 121/1 after 14 overs, before a quick fall of wickets halted the momentum.
- Subman and Suryakumar Yadav 20 were dismissed in quick succession.
- The other two victims of Zampa in the same over were Tilak Varma (5) and Jitesh Sharma (3).
- Axar Patel hit a six and a four in the last over to take India beyond 160, finishing at 167/8.
