BCCI Informs Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli To Play Domestic Cricket For ODI Selection

Directive to Senior Players by BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has conveyed to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli that their choice of continuing to represent Team India in ODIs will be subject to participation in domestic tournaments. Both cricketers have already retired from Test and T20 formats of the game. The board has conveyed that participation in domestic cricket is necessary to maintain match fitness.

"The message is clear that if they want to play ODIs, they have to play domestic cricket," a BCCI official said. The two cricketers, subsequently, will play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting on December 24.

Rohit Sharma's Domestic Plans

Rohit Sharma informed the MCA of his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was also eager to play the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament, starting November 26. However, with India's ODI series against South Africa commencing on November 30, he is expected to play only a few matches of the T20 tournament.

Participation of Virat Kohli Still Uncertain

Virat Kohli's participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is yet to be confirmed. Kohli had last played for Delhi in the tournament back in 2010. BCCI is expecting him to take part to keep his place in contention for selection in the ODI series.

Upcoming ODI Series Against South Africa

Team India will play three ODIs against South Africa, for which the squad is yet to be announced. In the ODI series against Australia recently, Rohit had scored a half-century and a century to regain the No. 1 ODI batsman ranking.

With form on his side, the selectors won't consider removing Rohit from the ODI setup. Kohli, on the other hand, scored poor runs in the first two games against Australia before getting a half-century in the final encounter.
