India's Historic Win in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup
Team India created history as it won the ICC Women's ODI World Cup title for the first time. This team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, had a bad start but overcame all hurdles to reach the top as world champions. After losing three continuous matches, India turned the tables and defeated Australia in the semi-final and then beat South Africa in the finals to win the title.
Harmanpreet's interaction with students in Chennai
A school in Chennai felicitated Harmanpreet Kaur for her achievement. The champion cricketer interacted with the students and replied to several queries. When asked to choose between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni as her favorite cricketer, Harmanpreet said, “MS Dhoni is my favorite cricketer.” She also said that former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has been an inspiration in her career.
When asked by students about the format of cricket she prefers, Harmanpreet said she likes playing Test cricket.
Her Message to Young Girls
Harmanpreet called upon young girls to work hard and maintain their focus toward becoming successful. She was happy that women's cricket is improving in India and public interest and recognition have increased a lot.
“Today, people talk about cricket without separating it into men’s or women’s cricket. That itself is a change for good. The increasing number of viewership and packed stadiums prove how the game has come a long way,” she said.
Performance in the Final Match of India
India won the last match against South Africa by 52 runs. Shafali Verma was undoubtedly the player of the match, whose 87 off 78 balls with the bat was supported by two important wickets.
And then, the unthinkable happened. Harmanpreet Kaur sprang a surprise by introducing Shafali into the attack-a ploy inspired by her idol MS Dhoni's out-of-the-box thinking. Throughout the tournament, Harmanpreet impressed fans with her performance as both a batter and captain.
