Kohli Explains His Match Performance
- Kohli shared details about his preparation and form.
- He feels that his more than 300 ODIs in 16 years keep him in touch with the game. He said that regular practice in the nets helps to improve match performances, while playing consistently will help him to maintain his form.
- Kohli said he remains physically fit and mentally prepared before each match. He still imagines bowlers, fielders, and match conditions even at 37 before entering the pitch.
- He said that the Ranchi wicket behaved differently in the first 25 overs, and that forced him to alter his approach. He waited for the ball and changed his shot selection based on pitch behavior. He said that strong mental preparation helps him to perform well, even more than hard physical practice.
- Many believed he indirectly responded to the suggestion of BCCI that he should play domestic cricket. His remarks created an impression that he does not plan to change formats.
BCCI Terms Rumours as False
- Social media discussions were abuzz with news that BCCI asked Kohli to reconsider his Test retirement. Following the whitewash in the recently held Test series in South Africa, strong criticism emerged against the coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The fans again wanted Kohli to return to Test cricket, and the board was also reportedly not against the idea.
- Contrary to these, BCCI clearly stated that nothing of this sort took place. According to BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, the news of discussions with Kohli was just rumors. He said no consultation has taken place and asked the fans not to spread rumors.
