Ashwin Expresses Concern Over Shubman Gill's Role In The Team

Current Position and Performance of Gill

Shubman Gill is currently acting as a vice-captain in the ongoing T20 series being played against South Africa. His performance in the last three matches has not lived up to expectations. His role as avice-captain in the team and staying in the playing eleven have become a topic of debate. Even dropping him from the playing eleven is being considered.

Indian left-arm spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dealt with this topic on his YouTube channel, Ash ki Baat.Removing a vice-captain from a team is not an easy job,' Ashwin explained. 'Gill is not only an opener but avice-captain of this team. If you want to remove him in a series, you will have to face some issues.' 'By removing Gill in a series, you are removing a player and avice-captain,' Ashwin added.

Need to Give Adequate Opportunities

Ashwin stated that after Gill was named as the vice-captain in the team, he must be given ample opportunities. He further added that Gill must be allowed to participate in all five matches in this series. Only if Gill continues to perform badly will the role of the vice-captain in the team come under consideration.

Pre-T20 World Cup Issues

Ashwin also talked about T20 World Cup preparations, which will take place next year. He stated they have two months left, but they have not yet identified their playing XI. He informed they have a solid bowling attack with no major issues. He pointed out Harshit Rana is bowling quite well.

Main Area of Concern

Ashwin feels that the worry is all about Shubman Gill’s performance. He stated, "There are doubts if Shubman Gill will be able to remain in the side if he doesn’t score runs. Then they might think of Sanju Samson too, you never know." Gill will have to work very hard to find a spot in the side, according to Ashwin.
