T20 World Cup 2026: India Announces Squad; Gill Dropped, Ishan Returns

The Indian team for the T20 World Cup in 2026 is announced by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The event will be organized jointly in India and Sri Lanka.

Leadership and Key Appointments

  • The captain of the Indian cricket team will be Suryakumar Yadav. The vice-captain is Axar Patel.
  • No one from the under 19 series, including the talented young player Shubman Gill, has been selected. He has been dropped from the vice-captain position as well. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been overlooked.
  • Ishan Kishan has made a comeback to the national side. He has been out of the national side for a long time. His fine form in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has seen him included in the side.

T20 World Cup 2026 Schedule

The T20 World Cup will commence from 7th February 2026.

The final will take place on 8th March 2026.

  • India vs USA - February 7
  • India vs Namibia, February 12
  • India vs. Pakistan: February 15, R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo
  • India vs Netherlands: February 18

The Super 8 group events will take place from February 21 through March 1. The first semi-final will be on March 4, and the second semi-final on March 5.

New Zealand Tour of India

New Zealand will tour India before the World Cup. The tour will begin from January 11. Three ODI and five T20 international matches will be played. The players who will go to the World Cup will play T20 international matches against New Zealand.
