BCCI Directs KKR To Release Mustafizur Rahman

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to let go of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. This decision has been made at a time when the political and social unrest connected to Bangladesh is at its highest. The secretary of BCCI, Devajit Saikia, has verified the news.

Context Behind the Decision

During the IPL 2026 mini-auction, KKR had got Mustafizur Rahman for a whopping price of ₹9.2 crore. After this acquisition, worrying thoughts surfaced regarding the unrest in Bangladesh as well as attacks on the Hindu community. These factors ultimately led to the opposition to the participation of a player from Bangladesh in the Indian Premier League.

Conflicting Statements from BCCI Sources

Earlier on Thursday, BCCI sources communicated that no official order had come from the Indian government about Bangladeshi players being barred from the IPL. Also, they made it known that the matter was beyond them and would not talk about it any further at that juncture.

Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL Record

Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL journey started in 2016. Since then, he has competed in 60 league matches and the total number of his wickets stands at 65. He has played for different teams and his name is synonymous with limited-overs cricket; for his variations and control.

Impact on India–Bangladesh Cricket Relations

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently laid out the itinerary for its home series against India. The lineup comprises of three One-Day Internationals and three T20 matches, slated between August and September. This tour was to take place last year but got delayed indefinitely due to the political situation.

The BCB stated that the upcoming series would compensate for the postponed tour. However, following the BCCI’s reported decision regarding Mustafizur Rahman, uncertainty has now emerged over India’s participation in the scheduled series.
