Royal Challengers Bangalore achieved their WPL final victory through a high-scoring match against Delhi Capitals. RCB achieved victory on Thursday by reaching their target of 204 runs with six wickets remaining. The team achieved victory through their ability to handle difficult situations while their two main partnerships created scoring opportunities.
Delhi Capitals Set a Challenging Target
- Delhi Capitals began their batters' turn after losing the toss and they scored 203 runs while losing four wickets throughout their 20-over match. The first three overs saw the team score only nine runs which started the innings with a slow pace. The scoring rate improved once the openers settled.
- Lizelle Lee scored 37 runs while Shafali Verma added 20. Laura Wolvaardt completely controlled the innings with her 44-run performance. Jemimah Rodrigues performed important work during mid-overs by scoring 57 runs from 37 balls. Her innings included eight boundaries.
- Delhi maintained their power after Jemimah left the match during the 16th over. Wolvaardt and Shinnelle Henry attacked the bowlers in the final overs. Delhi scored 49 runs in the last three overs. Shinnelle Henry scored 35 runs without losing his wicket which helped Delhi reach their total of 135 runs.
RCB’s Chase Led by Mandhana and Wareham
- Chasing a target above 200 runs in a final is difficult. Delhi gained control of the match when RCB lost Grace Harris after she scored nine runs. The match momentum shifted when Smriti Mandhana teamed up with Georgia Wareham.
- Smriti scored 87 runs from 41 balls. Georgia Wareham scored 79 runs from 54 balls. The two players established a partnership which lasted for 92 balls and produced 165 runs. They attacked all bowlers and kept the required run rate under control.Smriti reached her half-century in just 23 balls.
- The competition was suspended by Delhi because all of their last six players had been eliminated. The batsman remained with his team after he had been dismissed from the game. Nandini Sharma bowled an exceptional 18th over which led to her dismissal of Richa Ghosh. Shikha Pandey dismissed Smriti during the 19th over because she finished her over.
- The final over required RCB to score 10 runs. Radha Yadav maintained her composure which enabled her to score two consecutive sixes. The RCB team achieved victory after they completed their target in 19.4 overs.
