India Women Defeat England Women By 38 Runs In First T20

India Women kicked off their three-match T20 run versus England Women with a pretty solid win at Chelmsford, and honestly it looked comfortable in the end. India beat England by 38 runs, putting up 188/7 in their 20 overs. England Women then only managed to reach 150/8 in reply.

Jemimah Rodrigues along with Yastika Bhatia basically shaped the whole outcome. Their stand did a lot after India lost a couple early wickets, and it also helped India set up a total that England just couldn’t chase down.

India sort of bounced back after early trouble

  • England won the toss and, as you know, chose to bowl first. India ran into trouble straight away, Lauren Bell dismissed Smriti Mandhana on the very first ball of the game. Then Shafali Verma also fell in the same over, so India were suddenly 0/2.
  • After that start, Rodrigues and Bhatia took the situation in hand. Yastika went after the bowlers from the beginning, while Rodrigues seemed to get her bearings first and then ramped up quickly.
  • Yastika struck a handful of boundaries during the Powerplay. In fact, in one over from Issy Wong, she clobbered four fours in a row , and that definitely shifted momentum. Rodrigues kept finding gaps too as the innings went on.
  • By the time six overs had passed India had reached 73/2, which was a big recovery considering how things began.

Rodrigues Bhatia partnership , match turned

  • That third-wicket partnership changed the game’s mood. Yastika Bhatia brought up her half-century in 31 balls. Meanwhile Jemimah Rodrigues also reached her fifty from 31 deliveries.
  • They stitched together 126 runs as a pair, and the way they batted, it dragged India ahead all the way to 127 runs by the end of the 13th over.
  • Yastika finished with 54 off 40 balls, including nine fours and one six. Rodrigues replied with 69 off 40 balls, hitting ten fours and one six as well.
  • Charlotte Dean then broke the rhythm. Yastika was run out in the 14th over, and Rodrigues got out on the final ball of that same over, kind of leaving India’s chase plan already written off.

Deepti Sharma Adds Important Runs

After the main partnership got broken, India sort of started losing wickets pretty quickly. Richa Ghosh managed only 4 runs, and Bharati Fulmali added 6, that’s it.

Deepti Sharma then came in and  added valuable runs during the final overs. She made 22 runs off 13 balls, and hit four boundaries too. Arundhati Reddy stayed unbeaten on 9.

So in the end India finished on 188/7 in 20 overs.

For England, Lauren Bell took three wickets. Also, Issy Wong, Tilly Koertzen, and Charlotte Dean each picked up one wicket.

England Lose Early Momentum in the Chase

England’s target of 189 started off badly. Kranti Goud dismissed Sophia Dunkley for 16 in the second over. Very shortly after, she also removed the second opener, Lisa Keightley, for 6.

Then England kind of relied on Amy Jones and Heather Knight to repair things. The two steadied the innings and kept the required run rate in check for a while.

Amy Jones played the most meaningful innings for England. She reached her fifty in just 30 balls, then went after the Indian spinners with real confidence.

Indian Bowlers Control the Match

  • Sricharani broke a key stand by getting Heather Knight out in the 14th over. Jemimah Rodrigues took the catch.
  • Amy Jones kept finding boundaries, including two straight fours against Deepti Sharma. But debutant Nandini Sharma stopped the flow when she dismissed Jones. Shafali Verma held on to the catch.
  • On the next ball, Nandini dismissed Danielle Gibson as well, and from there England lost momentum completely.
  • Deepti Sharma got Freya Kemp, and Nandini Sharma also bowled Issy Wong. England wrapped up their innings at 150/8.

Nandini Sharma Impresses on T20 Debut

Nandini Sharma made a strong impact in her first T20 international match. She took three wickets and played an important role during the middle and death overs.

Kranti Goud supported well with two wickets. Sricharani and Deepti Sharma claimed one wicket each.

India now lead the three-match series 1-0 and will look to continue their form in the next game.
