Government Allocates Unfinished Two-Bedroom Houses To L-2 Beneficiaries

The government has initiated the process of distributing two-bedroom houses that were not constructed or allocated by the previous administration. These houses will be allotted to individuals listed under the L-2 category as part of the Indiramma House Scheme.

A survey was conducted using the Indiramma Houses app to review applications submitted through the Prajapalan program. This data was compared with findings from a recent house-to-house census survey, leading to the classification of applicants into three categories: L-1, L-2, and L-3.

  • L-1 Category: Including 21.93 lakh people with land ownership. The money that the government plans to give them is 5 lakh each periodically to help them build houses.
  • L-2 Category: The group includes 19.96 lakh landless. They will get land and also ₹5 lakh each as an incentive to build a house in the next fiscal year. In addition, the balance part of the constructions may be allotted for some of them to live in.
  • L-3 Category: These are the individuals who want to obtain financial support for additional assistance. They have already become house owners themselves.

Completion and Distribution of Pending Houses

During the last decade, the previous government had given the green light to 2.36 lakh two-bedroom houses. Out of them 1.58 lakh were finished, yet only 1.36 lakh were given to the beneficiaries. A lot of the houses are still incomplete or in different phases of the construction process.

The Housing Board is negotiating with contractors to resume construction. Some contractors halted work due to pending bill payments. The government is considering offering sand and other subsidies to encourage them to complete the unfinished houses.

Since L-2 category has a large number of applicants, allocating these pending houses to them could help reduce the financial burden. The government has gathered constituency-wise data on the incomplete and completed houses. Despite previous announcements of beneficiaries' names, many houses have yet to be distributed.

Final Allocation Process

A final field investigation will verify the eligibility of selected applicants before allocating the houses. Any remaining houses will be assigned to L-2 beneficiaries.

Some applicants prefer immediate possession of a completed house instead of waiting for land and ₹5 lakh for construction. These individuals are urging political leaders to allocate the available houses to them. However, the government has clarified that gram sabhas will be formed to finalize the list of beneficiaries according to the established guidelines.
