The film is directed by Megan Nicole Dong, the creator of Netflix's animated musical comedy show Centaurworld, with the screenplay authored by Deborah Frances-White and Zoe Tomalin. The music in the movie is written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. It is an international co-production between the United States and the United Kingdom. The plot of the movie is set in modern-day London and follows a group of fairies that break every rule there is. The development of the original musical comedy film started back in June 2021 along with That Christmas (2024) after CEO Sarah Smith was replaced by Natalie Fischer. Dong joined the project as a director and Frances-White to work on the screenplay in June 2023 with the unveiling of the official title. Then, Marlow and Moss joined to create original songs for the movie with Isabella Summers writing the score and DNEG Animation animating the film.

The release date of Bad Fairies in the United States is set for 21 May 2027.
