Rajasthan cricket coach Rahul Dravid has been outspoken about the undue media spotlight on 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. After the teen sensational centurion strike, which catapulted him into overnight national celebrity status, Dravid cautioned against too much attention on the youngster at this initial stage. While conceding Vaibhav's brilliance and recent victory, Dravid remained adamant about establishing a healthy rather than tension-filled environment.
Dravid Urges Caution in the Interest Hiking
Rahul Dravid, the coach of Rajasthan state team, took on the task of dealing with the public and media response to Vaibhav Suryavanshi's recent performance. "I can't tell the people what to say about him. Every time I give a press conference, all the questions are about Vaibhav," Dravid explained. Appreciating the interest shown by the public, he said the attention has to be maintained in balance for the player to continue improving further.
Dravid also described Vaibhav's grappling with keeping pace with overnight success. "It is a delicate as well as an interesting phase for him. I do not overanalyze regarding him, yet some degree of attention cannot be helped. We are obliged to provide him with the appropriate kind of care and stability in around him," he elaborated.
What Makes Vaibhav Stand Out
Balancing Vaibhav's coolness and fearlessness, Dravid had said: "What impressed me was his fearlessness and how he is so calm in all situations. At 14, that's unusual." He also mentioned the range of shots Vaibhav can play and looked for great improvement in the future as Vaibhav gains more experience and exposure.
Madanlal: Talent Needs Discipline to Succeed
Former India all-rounder Madanlal weighed in on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s potential, emphasizing that natural ability alone is not enough to build a long-term cricket career. “Vaibhav is clearly talented, but success demands more—focus, discipline, and continuous effort,” he stated. Madanlal explained that maintaining consistency requires a combination of mental strength and a strong support system.
He shared examples from Indian cricket, recalling Sachin Tendulkar’s early promise and Virat Kohli’s progression, pointing out that both had a disciplined approach and strong family support. “Vaibhav has star qualities. But how he uses them will determine his future. Support from parents and coaches will be crucial,” Madanlal added.
Balancing Praise with Responsibility
Even though Vaibhav's field performances are a source of wonder, Dravid and Madanlal also had apprehensions about the consequences of over-rash hero-worship. Dravid highlighted how excessive attention would choke potential sportspersons in the future. Madanlal also agreed, stating that proper counseling, instead of continual admiration, is infinitely important to form lasting solidity and character.
A general perception of cricketing greats is that natural talent at an early age matters but also has to be supplemented by discipline, humility, and systematic guidance. Proper guidance through counseling could make Vaibhav Suryavanshi a dedicated team member for Indian cricket.
