ICC To Host Next Three WTC Finals In England, BCCI's Bid Rejected

ICC Confirms England as Host for Future WTC Finals

The final of the World Test Championship (WTC) is an important game of international Test cricket. The BCCI sought to stage this match in India with the expectation of high crowd support. But the ICC seems to have turned this down.

The ICC is said to have selected England to host the succeeding three WTC finals. The finals, scheduled for 2027, 2029, and 2031, will be held in English grounds. This development will be announced officially during the ICC's annual meeting in Singapore in July.

England Hosts WTC Finals Since Inception

Since 2021, all the WTC finals have been hosted in England. The finals were hosted in Southampton, The Oval, and now in Lord's. The current final match, which is part of the 2023-25 cycle, is between South Africa and Australia and is now in the fourth day.

In spite of increasing popularity in India for Test cricket, the BCCI's invitation to host was rejected. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is said to have been told in advance of the ICC's move.

India's WTC Journey So Far

India reached the WTC final twice before but did not win. The next WTC cycle for 2025-27 will also begin in England. A five-match Test series between India and England is set to start on June 20.
