Microsoft's Latest Hiring Strategy centers on AI
- Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the company was going to start rehiring, this time with AI at the forefront. The company, which had earlier trimmed its workforce in various departments, was planning to bring in more staff to reinforce its AI initiatives.
- Speaking to the BG2 Podcast, Nadella commented that Microsoft's next wave of expansion would be smarter and more strategic. In other words, driven by automation. He compared this shift to others in the past, where technology moved from using fax machines to sending emails, and paper ledgers transitioned into digital spreadsheets.
AI to Reshape Roles and Productivity
- Nadella also said that Microsoft will hire more employees in the company, but not as it happened in the past, and the new hiring process will shift to roles which add more AI to the products rather than the mechanical ones.
- He concluded by saying that staff would have access to AI tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub AI Coding Helper. Systems like these have been developed to assist the workers in accomplishing their tasks more efficiently and increasing productivity with the aid of AI.
Current Workforce and Future Outlook
- The number of employees at Microsoft has remained almost unchanged within the last year. The employee headcount of the company went up about 22 percent in the fiscal year 2022. However, due to restructuring, the company laid off around 15,000 jobs this year.
- Despite the layoffs, Microsoft's total employee strength overshot the 200,000 mark, reflecting stability while keeping its strategic eyes on technology-driven growth. Its latest hiring plan indicates it is keen to play a leading role in shaping the future of work with AI.
