Jyoti Malhotra Under Investigation For Suspected Espionage

Indian authorities Questioned YouTuber for Foreign Associations and Money

Indian authorities are questioning Hisar-born YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra. She is accused of spying for Pakistan. Investigating agencies from the NIA, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Military Intelligence are conducting the investigation. They are verifying her international travels and her financial history.

She is being questioned by officers about her trips to Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, and Dubai. They are also checking into her sources of income. According to a local police officer, her income does not add up to the expense of her foreign travel.

Espionage Charges and Case Transfer Consideration

Jyoti Malhotra was detained on the 16th of this month. She has been accused of espionage. A government official said that the Union Home Ministry could refer her case to the Federal Anti-Terror Investigating Agency.

Alleged Link with ISI Handlers

It is reported that Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, could have utilized Jyoti to track down Indian undercover agents. It is said that she communicated with ISI handlers in code language. These reports have come from English media outlets that quoted good sources.

Police officials discovered during the investigation messages between Jyoti and an ISI handler, Ali Hassan, on WhatsApp. The exchange was as follows:

Hassan: Did anyone receive special protocol when you were Atari?

Jyoti: No. No one saw such a protocol.

Hassan: Watch who is getting the protocol. That is the right way to identify undercover agents.

Jyoti: They are not all stupid.

Investigators decrypted this coded chat. They are now checking whether Jyoti intentionally shared intelligence with Pakistan or was unknowingly involved.

Initial Contact During Visit to Pakistan

Jyoti Malhotra had her initial trip to Pakistan in 2023 for the Vaisakhi festival where she apparently had a chance to meet Danish, an official from the Pakistani High Commission. Law enforcement is investigating whether this was the beginning of more espionage activities.
