Elon Musk Quits Trump's Advisory Position

Musk Resigns as Head of Government Efficiency Department

Elon Musk has resigned as an advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. He was at the head of Government Efficiency Department, also referred to as "DoJ", that was working towards reducing federal expenditure.

Department Experienced Troubles

During Musk's time, the department shut down several agencies and fired thousands of federal workers. These measures led to unrest among the public. Because of lawsuits and demonstrations, Musk's efforts were opposed.

Spend Reduction Targets Were Reduced

Musk originally set his sights to reduce government expenditures by $2 trillion. He then lowered his target to $1 trillion, and eventually to $15 billion when the plan was encountering setbacks.

Musk Makes Public Declaration

Musk resigned on Wednesday night. In a tweet, he stated, "My special government employee term is complete. Thanks President Trump for the chance to cut wasteful government spending."

He further stated that the missions of the department, dubbed "Doge," would continue to shape and inform future government policy.

Potential Reasons for the Resignation

Musk's resignation could be attributed to the recent failure of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" in the U.S. House of Representatives. He argued that the bill would raise government expenditure and reverse the work of the department.

Conflict Over OpenAI Deal

A Wall Street Journal report mentioned that Musk had asked President Trump to halt a proposed deal between OpenAI and the United Arab Emirates. Trump allegedly didn't respond to Musk's request, which might have prompted Musk's departure.
