US Commerce Secretary Unveils Plans at USISPF Summit
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik has expressed that the new Trump Gold Card, a planned permanent residency initiative in the United States, could have strong interest from India. He divulged this while addressing the 2025 US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit.
Gold Card to be Introduced in India After US Release
Lutnik stated the Trump Gold Card will initially roll out for the US. Then, it will be available in India. He labeled the program a substitute for the Green Card and noted the card could cost $5 million to buy.
Card Provides Residency and Work Privileges
The Trump Gold Card would provide permanent residence to eligible foreign applicants. It would also be allowed to work in the US. Lutnik highlighted the card as a means of fostering economic involvement on both the US and Indian sides.
New Immigration Category for Foreigners with Special Skills
Lutnik termed this new card a "special category" enabling people with high potential to come to the US. He defined it as similar to the Green Card in terms of benefit. He explained that this card is one of the efforts to make America's immigration and economic systems modern.
“The Trump Gold Card will offer a major opportunity for capable individuals to enter the US. I expect it to be popular in India,” Lutnik stated.
Indian Talent Recognized
During the summit, Lutnik also responded to a question about Indian professionals. He praised Indian talent and intelligence, saying many successful companies in the US are led by people of Indian origin.
