Black Box Recovered from Wreckage
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) recovered the black box of the crashed Air India plane from the wreckage in Ahmedabad. It was recovered from the debris of a destroyed building. AAIB informed that an in-depth investigation into the crash already began. 40 state government staff are currently helping Civil Aviation teams on site.
Details of the Crash
The accident involved an Air India flight that had taken off from Ahmedabad and was on its way to London. The crash happened on Thursday. Officially, 265 people died in the crash. The reason for the crash is yet to be known. Experts opine that the black box information will assist in establishing the precise cause of the accident.
What is a Black Box?
There are two black boxes in each commercial plane. One is used to record flight data, and the other stores cockpit voice. During a routine or emergency flight, the pilot automatically calls the closest Air Traffic Control (ATC) by sending a "Mayday" message. Meanwhile, all the discussions between the pilot and copilot are also stored in the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR). This is called the black box, as attested by AAIB.
