US Halts Some Weapon Supplies To Ukraine Amid Stockpile Concerns

US Adjusts Weapon Support Policy for Ukraine

The US, which has been sending a lot of military aid to Ukraine since the war with Russia broke out, has now shifted its strategy. Pentagon officials said Washington suspended some shipments of weapons after reviewing its available defense inventory. The move comes as Russia's military activity is escalating, posing difficulties for Ukraine.

Review Triggers Change in Weapon Allocation

During the former Biden administration, the weapon transfers were sanctioned. However, in a recent Department of Defense review, there was noted a deficit in key weapon stockpiles. For this reason, Pentagon officials confirmed that the formerly planned deliveries will not be fulfilled. They refused to mention what weapons are impacted by the suspension.

White House Aligns with America-First Policy

White House press secretary Anna Kelly clarified that this shift is part of a policy spearheaded by President Donald Trump. The directive is to meet the needs of U.S. military requirements first before providing arms to other nations. Already, at the beginning of the war in February 2022, the U.S. has already given $66 billion in weaponry and military aid to Ukraine.

Continuous Conflict Rises in Eastern Europe

The war between Russia and Ukraine, which is in its third year, continues to worsen. Russia recently stepped up the aggression of using long-range drone strikes against Ukraine. The Ukrainian military is having a difficult time countering the drone attacks. As for diplomatic efforts spearheaded by President Trump to de-escalate the war, progress has been stalled, keeping peace talks stagnant.
