Brazil Responds To Trump: 'The World Doesn’t Need An Emperor'

Lula Responds to Trump's Tariff Threats

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva reacted sternly to recent utterances from former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump had threatened to impose a 10% extra tariff on BRICS countries if they move against U.S. interests. In response, Lula declared that the world has evolved and no longer requires a single power to rule it.

Speaking during the close of the BRICS summit in Brazil, Lula said:

"The world has changed. We do not need an emperor. Our countries are sovereign. If Trump sets tariffs, other nations can respond equally."

He condemned the method of threatening to use social media, declaring it irresponsible. Diplomatic matters such as tariffs, Lula argued, should be negotiated through appropriate international forums.

Lula Supports BRICS Unity, Not Confrontation

Lula insisted that the BRICS bloc does not intend to go against any nation. He added the block wants to present a new political model and does not want to hurt anyone.

Meanwhile, Trump had tweeted on Truth Social:

"We will add an extra 10% tariff on any nation that supports anti-U.S. BRICS initiatives. No exceptions."

China and U.S. Officials Also React

China reacted warily to Trump's remark. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning averred that BRICS is not an adversarial alliance and not against any particular country.

White House Press Secretary Carolina Leavitt also addressed the issue. She confirmed that Trump is monitoring the BRICS summit closely. Leavitt stated that while Trump doesn’t believe BRICS is growing stronger, he thinks the group aims to challenge U.S. interests. She reaffirmed Trump’s commitment to his “America First” approach.
