
Apple Leadership Shifts
Apple has instituted significant leadership changes. Its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Jeff Williams, is stepping down. His duties will be passed on to Sabih Khan, Senior Vice President of Apple. This transition will occur by the close of this month. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, will personally oversee the design team, which reports directly to Williams now.
Sabih Khan's Background
Sabih Khan has spent 30 years at Apple. He has led Apple's worldwide supply chain and manufacturing operations for the last six years. Sabih was born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. He received his education in Moradabad until he was in the fifth grade. His family subsequently shifted to Singapore. He finished schooling there and then went to the United States for further studies.
Khan has a bachelor's degree in economics and mechanical engineering. He also has a master's degree in mechanical engineering. He became a member of Apple's procurement group in 1995. He was a development engineer and account technical leader at GE Plastics prior to Apple.
Tim Cook's Comments on Khan
Tim Cook complimented Khan's work. Cook stated Khan assisted Apple in refining its supply systems and manufacturing technologies. Cook further added that Khan supported Apple's U.S. manufacturing expansion and assisted the company in adapting to global challenges.
Focus on Design Innovation
Apple is working on a new 'liquid glass' design. This new design will transform the interface on devices such as the iPhone, iPod, and Mac. There will be changes to buttons, menus, icons, and widgets. Apple called this one of the biggest design changes in the company's history.
Future Role of Jeff Williams
Jeff Williams will leave his COO position this year. But he will be working with Tim Cook for a period of time. He will manage the design team, Apple Watch, and health efforts. The design team will directly report to Cook during this period.
Tim Cook expressed gratitude to Williams for his service. According to him, Williams constructed Apple's acclaimed distribution infrastructure, spearheaded the Apple Watch rollout, and created the Apple Health plan. Williams explained that he will be spending more time with family and friends early next year.
Williams has spent 27 years at Apple and has an industry experience of 40 years. He was instrumental in the launch of the iPod, iPhone, and Apple Watch.
