USA Announces Huge Bounty
The United States has offered a reward of $50 million (around Rs. 430 crore) for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The offer is a part of the ongoing efforts by the U.S. administration to prosecute Maduro in court, who has been under investigation for quite some time.
Allegations Against Nicolas Maduro
U.S. Attorney General Kevin Bondy has recently posted a video on social media platform X. In the video, he blamed Maduro of collaborating with powerful crime organizations such as Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa cartel, and Cartel of the Sons. These crime organizations, he alleged, are distributing drugs and violence throughout the United States.
Drug Seizures and Accusations
Bondy cited that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has confiscated approximately 30 tons of cocaine attributed to Maduro and his inner group. Of that, Maduro is said to be personally linked to 7 tons. Bondy indicated that this drug business is a significant source of revenue for cartels in Mexico and Venezuela.
Fentanyl and Legal Cases
Bondy additionally added that Maduro is engaged in fentanyl trafficking. In March 2020, he was charged with legal charges in the Southern District of New York. Bondy reiterated that Maduro would be brought to justice under Trump's presidency.
Reward History and Asset Seizure
First, the Trump administration pledged a reward of $15 million for Maduro. Later, the Biden administration boosted it to $25 million. The United States Department of Justice has already seized assets valued at $700 million belonging to Maduro. They include private aircraft and nine cars.
