Hyderabad: MP of Medak Raghunandan Rao said it is sad that the Leader of Opposition does not have faith in the election process. He expressed this while speaking at a press conference held at the BJP state headquarters in Hyderabad.
EVMs and Ballot Papers
Raghunandan Rao reminded that the Congress government headed by Rajiv Gandhi had first conducted polls with the help of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). According to him, if Rahul Gandhi quits Rae Bareli, polls there can be conducted with ballot papers.
He alleged that Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, accept EVM results when they win in states like Telangana and Karnataka but question them when they lose in states like Bihar. Rao claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s win in Rae Bareli showed suspicious voting patterns, mentioning a difference of two lakh votes. He said BJP would demand the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi’s election from that constituency.
Doubts About Other Constituencies
The MP further raised questions regarding election outcomes in West Bengal's Diamond Harbour constituency and the Dimple Yadav constituency of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav's wife in Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that opposition parties raise doubts about EVMs just when they lose, which, according to him, misinforms the public.
Opinion on the Constitution and Judiciary
Raghunandan Rao blamed Congress for disrespecting the Constitution and judiciary. He opined that leaders should scientifically study electoral systems before leveling allegations. He recommended that elections in Congress-governed states be held on ballot papers if they doubt EVMs.
Other Political Remarks
On Telangana politics, Rao asked how KCR would lose elections if the EVMs were hacked. On West Bengal, he criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for turning down the proposal to construct a wall along the Bangladesh-India border, asserting it has caused infiltration.
In respect to court cases, he replied to criticism of BJP that ultimate verdicts would decide outcomes. Speaking about dissolving MLCs, he mentioned, "We will see who gets criticized once the final verdict is given."
