Ganguly Back as CAB President
Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has been re-elected as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) unanimously. The move was made at the 94th Annual General Meeting of the CAB on Monday. Ganguly, who served as the head of the association between 2015 and 2019, was back in the position after six years.
Emphasis on Eden Gardens Development
As president, Ganguly hopes to expand Eden Gardens to a capacity of 100,000. He also wishes to have major matches in the T20 World Cup to be held next year. The stadium will next month host a Test match between India and South Africa, beginning on November 14. It will be the first Test at Eden Gardens since six years ago. The previous one was a pink-ball Test match between India and Bangladesh in November 2019, when Ganguly served as the BCCI president.
Ganguly's Comment on Upcoming Test
Ganguly spoke on the upcoming Test match between India and South Africa. Both teams are strong, and the match must be competitive, he said. He assured that negotiations with the BCCI regarding match plans will be done shortly.
Eden Gardens Capacity Changes
Eden Gardens used to have a seating of more than 100,000. As of the 2011 World Cup, the capacity was cut to 68,000. Ganguly added that there will be no consideration for a capacity increase until the next year's T20 World Cup.
