Google To Build 1 GW Hyperscale Data Center In Visakhapatnam: A Major Milestone For Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Government and Google Sign Agreement

The Andhra Pradesh Government has signed a historic agreement with Google to establish a 1-gigawatt hyperscale data center in Visakhapatnam. The agreement was signed formally in New Delhi. Key attendees were Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, State Minister Nara Lokesh, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurien, Global Infrastructure Vice President Bikash Kole, and Google Cloud Asia Pacific President Karan Bajwal. The meeting took place at the Taj Mansingh Hotel.

Investment and Economic Impact

Google will be investing around USD 15 billion in this project. It will make Visakhapatnam a leading AI-based technology hub. It is also Google's biggest Asian project.

The data center is projected to add around ₹10,518 crore to Andhra Pradesh's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between 2028 and 2032. The project will also generate 1,88,220 direct and indirect employments in the state.

Boost to Productivity Due to Cloud Services

Apart from infrastructure development, Google Cloud-based software will also boost digital productivity. These software programs are expected to generate ₹47,720 crore in five years, or ₹9,553 crore annually.
