India's Declaration of Democracy and Human Rights
India declared that the notion of democracy is still alien to Pakistan. It expressed concerns regarding the continuation of human rights abuses in Pakistan's illegal held territories and called for an immediate halt to such actions.
Comments from India's UN Representative
India's Representative at the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, presented the statement at a session of the UN. He pointed to demonstrations by Pakistani-occupied Kashmiri citizens against Pakistan's military domination, exploitation of natural resources, and acts of oppression. Harish called for an end to such grave human rights violations in the territory.
India's Position on Jammu and Kashmir
Harish reiterated Jammu and Kashmir is and will always be an integral part of India. He underscored that people in the state are exercising their rights under India's democratic ethos—something, he added, Pakistan will never accept.
India's Global Perspective
He also declared that India subscribes to the notion of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" or the world is one family. India, he said, believes in justice and dignity for all countries and peoples.
Reference to the Role of UN
Harish considered the establishment of the United Nations following World War II as a beacon of hope for international peace and security. He pointed out the role played by the UN in limiting colonial power and fostering global cooperation.
