India's Official Response to Regional Tensions
India has stated its clear position in the wake of the continuing border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The MEA reiterated that India has always stood for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan. The statement also criticized Pakistan's latest actions, accusing it of perpetuating cross-border terrorism.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Pakistan seems to think that cross-border terrorism was some sort of right. But such acts are unacceptable to the neighboring countries, he warned. India reiterated that it will continue to support Afghanistan’s right to govern its own territory without external interference.
Accusations by Pakistan and Other Developments in the Region
There have been heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan since Pakistan began attacking Afghan territory earlier this month. The two sides later met in Turkey to discuss a possible ceasefire and cross-border security, but those talks did not succeed.
Following the collapse of the talks, Pakistani Minister Khawaja Asif accused India of directing the Taliban and said that the link was the reason for the breakdown of the dialogue with Kabul. India denies these accusations as groundless and once again confirms its commitment to regional peace and the independence of Afghanistan.
