India Refutes Pakistan's Claims About Oxford Union Debate

A debate between Indian and Pakistani officials was to take place at the Oxford Union in the UK on Thursday. From India, former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane was to take part along with Subramanian Swamy and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot. On the Pakistani side, former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani, Ambassador to the UK Mohammad Faisal, and retired General Zubair Mahmood Hayat were to attend the debate.

The Pakistan embassy in the UK claimed that Indian officials pulled out at the last minute. A post shared on X said the Pakistani team was all set in London when the Oxford Union organizers informed them that India had taken a decision to pull out. It did not share the reasons.

Senior Indian lawyer Sai Deepak explained. He said that Subramanian Swamy and Naravane could not make it due to personal reasons. The Oxford Union asked him to provide the names of participants as an alternative. He went to the UK, formed a new team, and prepared for the debate.

However, a few hours ahead of the discussion, union officials told him that the Pakistani team had not arrived in the UK. Deepak was frustrated as the debate got canceled. He said that the absence of the Pakistani team means they are not interested in talking to India. His posts said much on how Pakistan earlier lied.
