Strengthening Bilateral Relations
India and Russia are moving forward with key agreements ahead of President Vladimir Putin's visit to India. The Russian parliament, the Duma, has approved a civil nuclear cooperation agreement with India. Both the countries will sign the agreement when Putin visits India. The Duma has also approved the Reciprocal Exchange of Information and Communication - RELOS - in Transport signed earlier this month in February.
Several more agreements concerning trade, defense, and strategic cooperation are expected to be inked between India and Russia. An agreement on the S-400 missile systems is also expected.
Expanding Military Cooperation
According to Duma Speaker Vyacheslav, the relationship between Russia and India is considered strategic and comprehensive by Russia. The two countries will share military infrastructures, warships, and aircraft under the agreement on RELOS. This agreement also facilitates joint military exercises, training programs, coordination of humanitarian assistance, and access to each other's airspace and ports for missions undertaken by navies.
He added that both sides take steps to deepen military cooperation even further. Putin Underlines that India is a Key Partner President Putin said that Russia plans to enhance cooperation with India in all directions. He pointed out that huge joint projects are under way in energy, industry, space exploration, and agriculture. He also touched on planned discussions with Prime Minister Modi on increased imports from India. Putin noted that India's imports of Russian oil temporarily decreased, but he reaffirmed that Russia would remain a major energy supplier to India.
