Putin Responds to Drone Strikes on Russian Tankers
Russian President Vladimir Putin shows concern for the constant strikes by drones against Russian tankers that operate in the Black Sea. He says that the strikes come from Ukraine, warning that these acts would bring their consequences. Putin says that the only way to stop the attacks is to limit Ukraine's access to the sea. He didn't detail how Russia intends to constrain Ukraine's sea routes. He added that more operations could be performed by Russian forces against Ukrainian ships and also vessels of countries that support Ukraine.
Recent Drone Attacks in the Region
A Russian-flagged oil tanker was struck by a drone off the coast of Turkey on Tuesday. All 13 crew remained safe. Days earlier, Ukraine carried out similar drone attacks on two tankers in the Black Sea headed to Russian ports for oil loading. Ukrainian officials claim such tankers generate significant revenue supporting Russia's military operations. Putin's warning came in response to such incidents.
No Breakthrough in US–Russia Discussions
As yet, there is no sign of progress in talks between the United States and Russia over an end to the conflict in Ukraine. The Kremlin said there was no agreement on territorial disputes. On Tuesday night, US President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian representatives. The meeting was constructive and several US proposals were discussed, Russian officials said, although they rejected some suggestions, claiming they did not tally with Russia's interests.
