Concerns Grow As Delhi's Air Pollution Harms Children And Elderly

Political Leaders Point to Growing Health Risks

Air quality in Delhi is increasingly deteriorating day by day. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi showed concern for the situation and called upon the government to take immediate action in decreasing air pollution.

On Thursday, opposition parties staged a protest inside the Parliament premises. Wearing masks and holding placards, the members asked the Prime Minister to stop making announcements and start taking concrete action over the issue. They also demanded a formal discussion over the issue inside Parliament. Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge joined the protest. Later, Sonia Gandhi told the reporters that due to polluted air, children are dying, and older citizens are suffering. She said the government must act without delay.

Calls for Parliamentary Discussion

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi also demanded a discussion on air pollution. She said the pollution outside is severe and that children cannot breathe properly. She added that many elderly people face breathing difficulties. According to her, the situation becomes worse every year, but the government only makes announcements instead of taking action. She stressed that this issue is not political because people are suffering.

In the winter session, several Congress MPs moved notices for a discussion on air pollution. Congress MP Manickam Tagore said the government advises but doesn't take effective action. He took a dig at the government for failing to take notice of health ailments arising out of pollution.
