Canada has temporarily suspended its Start-up Visa Program, also referred to as the Start-up Visa Program (SUV). Canada’s immigration body, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that the Start-up Visa Program will soon be replaced by a new plan designed for foreign entrepreneurs. The plan will start as a pilot program in 2026.
Work Permit Applications Halted
The IRCC further clarified that it would no longer accept applications for work permits through the Start-up Visa program. But extension of the existing work permit in such cases would be possible.
Future Plans
Meanwhile, officials announced the new initiative would benefit the country’s immigration plans in the long run. The initiative is part of the efforts to provide greater support to entrepreneurs seeking to establish businesses in Canada. The specifics regarding the changes in the current program, the SUV program, have not been announced yet. The details would be announced when the pilot program starts in the year 2026.
