A senior Congress party member, Shashi Tharoor, recently pointed out that Indian authorities cannot afford to disregard some developments in Pakistan’s military strength. This is according to a report by a news agency.
Questions Surrounding Pakistan’s Military Plan
Tharoor said that India has learnt many lessons from their past experiences in dealing with Pakistan. He emphasized that India needs to be ever prepared for anything that may happen. Tharoor said that they have many drones, rockets, and missiles, and now hypersonic missiles, and that all this is a warning that should not be ignored.
Political and Economic Scenario in Pakistan
Tharoor claimed that democracy in Pakistan is only a formality. He added that military dominance is still a hallmark in decision-making. He also discussed that Pakistan has a very bleak economic situation, including a reliance on aid from other nations.
South Asia and its Regions
Commenting on Bangladesh, Tharoor said, “There are internal issues for the government of Bangladesh to deal with. There are reports of talks being held between Bangladesh and Pakistan over a possible defense agreement. Such actions may be intended to give the impression that India is an adversary,” said Tharoor.
Concerns Over India’s Security Environment
Tharoor expressed concern regarding the rise of anti-India feelings in neighboring countries. He stated that peace and stability in Bangladesh are significant to India regarding its security and that threats and talk regarding separating India's northeastern provinces from India are being spread.
