US Offers Pakistan Collaboration In Mineral Exploration

The trade ties between the United States of America and Pakistan appear to be improving. Recently, the US has made offers to export train locomotives to Pakistan, as well as joint exploration for mining of rare minerals, as reported by the Express Tribune, a Pakistani daily.

Discussions Begin in Washington

Such discussions began after the visit of Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Muhammad Aurangzeb. Since the visit in October, Pakistani officials have been having discussions that would ease their way towards cooperating with the US. There have been reported meetings between Raymond Emory Cox, an advisor to ex-president Trump, along with advisor Ricky Gill on international economic affairs.

Locomotives and Digital Policies

Ricky Gill reportedly urged Pakistan to buy American-made locomotives. Pakistan has 55 locomotives in operation but has resource constraints. He also urged the government of Pakistan to allow licenses for the use of Starlink internet services. Pakistan has Since then removed the 5 percent digital services tax for American companies.

Investment in Mining and Technology

The US has allocated an amount of $135 billion for investments in the mining sector of Pakistan. In addition, the sanctioning of $1.25 billion from the US Exim Bank has been approved for the Reko Diq Mining Company in the province of Balochistan. Both countries are also set to cooperate on charting the mines of the mineral reserves of Pakistan and on Artificial Intelligence.
