India rejected Pakistan's United Nations statements which made unfounded accusations through the Pakistani ambassador while showing Pakistan's terrorist activities as a growing threat.
UN Security Council Discussion
- The UN Security Council meeting on Monday saw Pakistan's Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad use Operation Sindoor together with Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty according to his analysis of the situation. He claimed that India’s statements about counter-terrorism actions and establishing a “new normal” were inaccurate.
- The UN Permanent Representative from India Parvathaneni Harish delivered a strong response. He stated that Pakistan consistently uses international forums to target India and its citizens. Harish explained that India conducted Operation Sindoor in response to the terrorist attack which occurred in Pahalgam.
India’s Position on Jammu and Kashmir
Harish reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. He declared that Pakistan lacks power to interfere with India’s domestic issues.
Indus Waters Treaty Concerns
- Harish discussed the Indus Waters Treaty which the two nations signed 65 years ago to establish trust and cooperation between them. He observed that Pakistan has broken the treaty while backing terrorist groups. India has stopped participating in the treaty because of these actions taken by Pakistan.
- India maintains a strong position on its internal security through its regional treaties which also reflect its commitment to combatting terrorism.
