BCCI Meeting with Team Captains
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted a meeting with captains of all ten IPL teams before the 2026 season. The main purpose was to explain match rules, training guidelines, and operational clarity.
Key officials attended the meeting:
- Javagal Srinath, Head of the Match Referees Panel
- Nitin Menon, member of the ICC Elite Panel
The current season contains Indian cricketers who serve as captains for all ten teams. The captains present included:
- Ishan Kishan (Hyderabad)
- Hardik Pandya (Mumbai)
- Shubman Gill (Gujarat)
- Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai)
- Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata)
- Rishabh Pant (Lucknow)
- Rajat Patidar (Bengaluru)
- Shreyas Iyer (Punjab)
- Riyan Parag (Rajasthan)
Impact Player Rule: No Changes Before 2027
The BCCI confirmed that the Impact Player rule will remain unchanged until at least 2027.
The rule which allows teams to substitute one player from their starting eleven during a match was established in 2023. Some captains and experts have raised concerns:
- The rule may reduce the role of all-rounders
- Team balance may shift toward specialists
The BCCI decided to maintain the existing rule without any modifications or reviews at this moment.
Ball Change Request Not Approved
- A captain at the meeting proposed a new rule about ball handling during the game.
- The request: allow ball change after the 10th over in the first innings
- Current rule: ball change allowed only in the second innings
- BCCI dismissed the request because the current rule will continue to apply without any changes.
- The rule enables bowlers to solve grip problems that arise from dew conditions during the second inning of matches.
Practice and Match-Day Regulations
The BCCI established practice and training requirements as follows:
- No practice sessions are allowed on match day
- Teams must follow fixed practice schedules
- If a team finishes practice early, the opponent cannot use the same pitch during the remaining time
These rules aim to ensure fairness and maintain pitch conditions.
