Indian Coast Guard And DRI Seize 99 Kg Hashish Worth Rs 108 Crore En Route To Sri Lanka

99 kilogrammes of hashish worth Rs 108 crore that were being transported to Sri Lanka were found by the Indian Coast Guard and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Chennai, officials said on Tuesday.

Additionally, the DRI detectives have taken four people into custody, including the principal accused.

After the DRI acquired information about drugs being trafficked from India to Sri Lanka through a coastal route close to the Mandapam coast, the racket was caught.

On the intervening nights of March 4 and 5, DRI Chennai Zone agents set a trap and stopped a boat that was travelling towards Sri Lanka.

The Coast Guard Station, Mandapam, received the boat and the contraband for additional investigation.

The suspects admitted under questioning that the sacks on the boat contained drugs that they had obtained from someone in the Pamban Coastal area. They were meant to turn over the contraband in the deep sea to anonymous Sri Lankans.

The smuggler's mastermind was later taken into custody by DRI agents at his home.

According to an initial inquiry, he was instrumental in setting up the coastline route for the trafficking of drugs from India to Sri Lanka.

Police are currently holding all four of the accused.
