Investigation Progresses After Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede
The police have intensified their investigation into the stampede at the Bengaluru Chinnaswamy Stadium when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) celebrated their victory parade. Event Coordinators Detained
Police also took into custody three staff members of DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited, the event management company that had arranged the celebration. Nikhil Sosale worked with DNA for the event arrangements and handled key tasks on behalf of RCB.
Casualties and Public Reactions
Wednesday's stampede had 11 deaths and over 50 injuries. Social media discussion suggests that the disaster may have been brought about through confusion regarding the organization of the event. Eyewitness reports suggest that opening to too many individuals at once caused pressure on the crowds, leading to the stampede.
Court Intervention and Government Action
The Karnataka High Court took suo moto cognizance of the affair. It directed the state government to identify who was responsible for the collapse of planning. In reaction to this, the state established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID to lead the investigation.
Current Investigation and Accountability
The SIT has been keeping members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and RCB officials accountable. Arrests were made on the basis of court orders. Investigations are ongoing to determine further responsibility.
