Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is an upcoming American action spy film. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen, this movie will continue directly from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) and mark the eighth release in the film series Mission: Impossible. The stars of this part are seen again in Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon from the previous parts.
Cruise has officially been known to shoot Mission: Impossible - VII and VIII together after revealing news with January 2019 with the release from writer McQuarrie directing as well. Plans for the film changed in February 2021. The returning and new cast were announced shortly afterward, and the score of the film was handled by Lorne Balfe who composed the scores for two of the previous films in the series. The production started filming in March 2022 in the United Kingdom but other filming locations include Malta, South Africa and Norway. Production was halted for the movie in July 2023 when SAG-AFTRA was on strike. Filming resumed again in March 2024 and finished at the end of November 2024. The working title for the movie was originally going to be titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, though in October 2023 it dropped the subtitle from its title. A new subtitle has been revealed in November 2024. It is one of the costliest movies ever, estimated to be around $400 million.
The Final Reckoning will run in theaters nationwide in the United States on May 23, 2025. The movie will be released through Paramount Pictures.
