Telangana Starts Implementing The ‘Gruha Jyothi’ Scheme

Telangana's power distribution providers began providing "zero bills" to qualified homes on Friday, coinciding with the implementation of the 200 units of free electricity under the "Gruha Jyothi" plan.

Workers from power distribution firms were observed going door-to-door, delivering "zero bills" to those who qualified for the programme. This was one of the promises made by the Congress party during the most recent Assembly elections.

According to officials, households with white ration cards (BPL families) that have filed for the Praja Palana scheme and linked their cards to Aadhaar will receive "zero bills" if their monthly usage is less than 200 units.

On Friday, a client who used 114 units and paid a total of Rs. 489 in bills was given a "zero bill."

According to officials, the billing software has undergone the necessary modifications to produce "zero bills." In the next days, the entire state will be included in the process, which commenced in Hyderabad.

Discoms will provide information about the subsidy to the state government by the twentieth of every month in order to pay the subsidy cost.

On February 27, the Telangana Congress government started putting two promises—including "Gruha Jyothi"—into effect.

Another initiative, introduced by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, offers a single cooking gas cylinder at the price of Rs. 500.

The Congress party made thirteen promises as part of its six guarantees during the elections, and the Telangana administration began implementing two of those promises two days after taking office.
